Recognizing and honoring Gregory B. Banks for his service to the City and People with Disabilities
Body
WHEREAS, Gregory B. Banks was born on June 26, 1956 to Grantlin and Mattie (Jones) Banks in Harvey, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Gregory  Banks was a loyal public servant as a Contract Compliance Officer for the Madison Metropolitan School District and as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Banks was a tireless advocate for people with disabilities, serving on the Commission for People with Disabilities from April 18, 2000 to September 30, 2011. Gregory brought issues regarding emergency management and evacuation plans, as well as polling place accessibility to the Commission to ensure that people with disabilities were not forgotten; and  
WHEREAS, Gregory Banks would inspire other CPD members by his thoughtfulness, dedication, and knowledge of working with and overcoming any disability; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Banks was an inspiration to everyone as he battled ALS, never allowing this disease to get in his way; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Banks, with the constant support and assistance of his dedicated wife and partner Gennette, would lead by example to all those who served with and knew him; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Banks exhibited limitless joy and enthusiasm to all of those he came in contact with; and
WHEREAS, Gregory, age 55, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Gennette; their children, Lenika Banks, Gennifer Banks, and Gregory B. Banks II; and grandchildren, Brooklynn Reives and Jasmia Banks. All of his family, friends, and co-workers will miss him.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison honors the dedication of Gregory B. Banks and celebrates his life and accomplishments on behalf of Madison.
