Title
Proclaiming July 30, 2005 as "Lowell Day" in Madison, Wisconsin.
Body
WHEREAS, the descendents of Major Abram Bradbury Lowell have chosen Madison, Wisconsin as the repository of their history via The Wisconsin Historical Society; and,
WHEREAS, to commemorate the Lowell heritage with the presentation to the Wisconsin Historical Society a book written by David T. Lowell (a graduate of the University of Wisconsin) entitled, "An American Story: The History of Abram Bradbury Lowell and His Family" and;
WHEREAS, the Lowells have contributed greatly to the growth of the State of Wisconsin and this country, beginning with the arrival of Percival Lowell and his family in 1639, and;
WHEREAS, the Lowells in America expansion continued with Abram Bradbury Lowell and his family's move to Sharon, Wisconsin in 1844; and
WHEREAS, the book is the story of the Wisconsin Lowell family and describes their hardy pioneer spirit and how they served the State of Wisconsin, and,
WHEREAS, many Lowells have contributed to the growth of Madison, as graduates of the University of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Madison General Hospital School of Nursing, and
WHEREAS, Elsmer Rudolph Lowell owned and operated the Lowell Pharmacy near Camp Randall Stadium 1936 - 1949, and
WHEREAS, Dr. Adrian Vander Veer MD, with his wife Veeda Pearle Lowell Clement, did own and operate a clinic on Madison's East side, and
WHEREAS, the pioneer spirit continues in Madison with Judy Lowell as Community Relations Director for American Family Insurance and her sister Barbara as Office Manager for Gialamas Company,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison proclaims July 30, 2005 as "Lowell Day" in Madison, Wisconsin in recognition of Abram Bradbury Lowell.
