Title
Accepting a grant if awarded to the City of Madison from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the Fire Department.
Body
A grant application has been submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the Fire Department. The Federal share of this grant if awarded is $236,600 and the City share would be $59,150. The City share is 20 per cent of the total project cost of $295,750. Past grants have required 30 per cent matching City funds.
The application was submitted for the following items:
1. A request was made for an air compressor to fill air bottles. This item will provide better coverage for our eleven fire stations. Some Fire companies have to leave their territory for this task and are out of service for emergency calls.
2. An emergency vehicle simulator was requested for emergency and non-emergency driver training. This simulator would allow training in a class room.
3. Funding was requested for fire alarm systems for five existing fire stations. These stations do not have alarm systems. This project would improve firefighter and community safety by upgrading to new building codes and would comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 72.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City accept this grant if awarded.
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and other necessary City officials are authorized to execute all necessary documents upon award.
