AMENDED - Authorizing the Mayor to Name a Special Commission on Madison's Official Song(s).
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison currently does not have an official song; and
 
WHEREAS, many local citizens and commentators have expressed an interest in designating an official song for the City; and
 
WHEREAS, the City's upcoming Sesquicentennial marks an appropriate occasion for the designation of Madison's official song; and
 
WHEREAS, the suggestions for the official song have been diverse, ranging from "Madison Blues" by Elmore James to "Wonderful Madison" by Lou & Peter Berryman to "Cool at the Union" by Bill O'Brien;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,  that the mayor shall name a Special Commission on Madison's Official Song, with members to be drawn from Madison's music, arts and culture community, to receive public input on Madison's official song, and submit to the mayor and Council for approval no later than December 1, 2005 a proposal to designate the official song(s) of Madison.
