Approving the roadway geometry for the CTH PD - Meriter Way to Maple Grove Rd. (7th AD).

The City of Madison and KL Engineering entered into an agreement for design engineering services for the reconstruction of CTH PD - Meriter Way to Maple Grove Rd.
The roadway is proposed to be reconstructed with two vehicle lanes in each direction, bike lanes in each direction, grassed median, a side multi- use path on one side and sidewalk on the other. The proposed design calls for modifications of traffic signals at the intersections of CTH PD/Meriter Way, CTH PD/High Point Rd. and CTH PD/Maple Grove Rd. The proposed design calls for a new traffic signal at CTH PD/Muir Field Rd.
The proposed design will adequately serve the traffic projections through the year 2040. A multi-use path bridge is proposed over the roadway between Meriter Way and High Point Rd. The bridge serves both pedestrians & bicyclists traveling along PD as well as the North-South Ice Age Junction Path that follows the CTH M corridor. The bridge also is designed to be used as safe crossing for the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
The proposed design was designed from the beginning with the project goal of improving the movements of pedestrians, bicycles and motor vehicles. Each direction of roadway will include on-street bike lanes. The bike and pedestrian system will be part of a regional system (Ice Age Junction Path) going from Tree Lane, north of Mineral Point Road all the way through the proposed UW Research Park and further south to Verona. The regional system connects to the Military Ridge State Trail.
The project is planned for 2017 construction.
Now therefore be it resolved that the roadway geometry for CTH PD - Meriter Way to Maple Grove Rd. project is hereby approved.
