Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign any documents necessary for the City of Madison's application for a Bicycle Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists.
Body
WHEREAS, Madison is hosting the Biennial International Conference, Pro Bike/Pro Walk in September, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Madison is recognized as one of the most bicycle friendly communities in the country; and
WHEREAS, bicycling is a healthy, fun, inexpensive, environmentally sustainable, and community friendly form of transportation and recreation; and
WHEREAS, communities that are bicycle friendly are seen as having a high quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Madison should be seen as bicycle friendly simply for the fact that so many hardy souls commute by bike all winter; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison will submit an application for Bicycle Friendly Community status to the League of American Bicyclists; and
WHEREAS, the application for a Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists will mean an outside analysis of areas where we can improve our bicycle education, planning, facilities, and law enforcement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Clerk be and are hereby authorized to sign any documents necessary to facilitate the application process.
