Title
Commending Katherine (Kitty) H. Rankin for her contributions to the City of Madison's historic preservation program on the occasion of her retirement from public service.
Body
WHEREAS, Katherine (Kitty) H. Rankin was hired by the City of Madison Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development as a Preservation Planner on April 23, 1979; serving as staff to the Landmarks Commission, administering the Landmarks Ordinance, and overseeing the City's preservation program; and
WHEREAS, Kitty has devoted her nearly three-decade-long career with the City to raising awareness and appreciation of historic properties and their importance to the fabric of the community; and
WHEREAS, Kitty has skillfully and diplomatically balanced the needs of preservation with those of property owners, neighborhood organizations, developers, and the City, which has earned her a great deal of respect from all segments of the community; and
WHEREAS, Among her many accomplishments, Kitty has facilitated the designation of approximately 120 properties as local historic landmarks, the creation of several local historic districts, the surveying of all of Madison's historic buildings and Native American mounds, and the development of the Downtown Preservation Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the citizens of the City of Madison, through the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deep appreciation to Katherine (Kitty) H. Rankin for her nearly 30 years of loyal and conscientious public service, and for her significant contributions in shaping Madison's physical environment and saving numerous historic architectural gems for current residents and future generations to enjoy.
