Fiscal Note
The funding source for the new equipment would be Motor Equipment Fund Balance applied. Sufficient fund balance is available for this purchase. There is no anticipated impact upon cost controls or the tax levy.

Amending the 2006 Motor Equipment Capital Budget to allow for the immediate purchase of a brush chipper.

Whereas, the City of Madison Motor Equipment Division purchased a large brush processing machine in 1997 to process the annual 10,000 tons of brush generated by City of Madison residents at the Olin Ave. Transfer Station and Brush Site and,
Whereas, the general condition of the brush processing machine has deteriorated, due to the June 23, 2004 tornado, and the continued growth of the city forest, the machine has processed over 11,000 to 12,000 tons of material for each of the last five years with a peak of 13,500 tons in the tornado year of 2004 and,
Whereas, the machine has passed is useful life due to the age and deterioration which has increased down time and forced the manufacturer to fabricate repair parts which further increases down time and increases repair costs for Motor Equipment and,
Whereas, a more efficient and much improved demonstrator model with 180 hours of total operation has become available for purchase at a reduced price
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the 2006 Motor Equipment Capital Budget for Project #7 "Brush Chipper Replacement", is amended by the addition of $ 522,479 in 2006, and the deletion of $500,000 planned for the year 2008.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 2006 funding source will be Motor Equipment reserves applied.
