I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.  "Statement of Interests" form are on file for those appointees required to file.
 
*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.
Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provisions of this section shall not necessarily apply with reference to membership on special study committees where in the judgment of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of certain nonresident members who are particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience..."
 
COMMISSION ON PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
 
CHRISTIAN T. MORAN, 114 S. Prospect Avenue, 53726 (10th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident.  While working as a Legislative Research Assistant in the Wisconsin State Assembly, Mr. Moran assisted in the crafting of several pieces of disability and access legislation.  In the process, he has become very passionate about these issues and knowledgeable of federal, state and local disability laws.  He succeeds Valerie A. Brown.

COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY GARDENS
 
KEVIN J. SCHIESSER, 933 Jenifer Street, 53703 (6th A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Citizen.  Mr. Schiesser is an experienced gardener with a strong appreciation for local food and community building.  He currently has a plot at Eagle Heights.  He succeeds Mai Chong Lor.

* MIRENDA  A. BURKE, 9105 Silverstone Lane, Verona, 53593 - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident.  Ms. Burke is a Project Manager at Insight.  She succeeds Erika H. Braunginn.

Rationale: The Equal Opportunities Commission hears complaints against employers, housing providers and places of public accommodations in the City of Madison, however many of the complainants live outside of the city.  As someone who works in Madison yet lives outside of the city, Ms. Burke will bring an important perspective on these issues to the Commission.
 
JOINT SOUTHEAST CAMPUS AREA COMMITTEE
 
JOSEPH F. KLOSTERMAN, 330 N Carroll Street, 53703 (4th A.D.) - appoint to the position of UW - ASM Representative.  Mr. Klosterman is a Masters student at the University of Wisconsin studying Urban and Regional Planning. The Associated Students of Madison have recommended Mr. Klosterman for this position.  He succeeds Bess S. Lenz.
 
MADISON'S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) BOARD
 
* JEANETTE E. RIECHERS, 142 Kensington Drive, Maple Bluff, 53704 - reappoint to a three-year term to the  position of State Street Area - Business Owner.  First appointed 5-15-2007.

Currently serving on:      Sister City Collaboration Committee (GMCVB Board Representative)
 
Rationale: Ms. Riechers is a respected State Street area business owner (Heartland Birkenstock, 414 State Street) who will continue to contribute greatly to the BID.  Her reappointment is supported by the members of the BID Board.
      
PAUL R. NORMAN, 125 N. Hamilton Street # 606, 53703 (4th A.D.)  - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Capitol Square Area - Business Owner.  First appointed 3-27-2007.

Rationale: Mr. Petri is the designee of Downtown Madison, Inc.  He formerly served as assistant City Attorney for the City of Madison and has worked in downtown Madison throughout his career.
 
MATT MIKOLAJEWSKI, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, 53703 (business address) - reappoint to a three year term to the position of City of Madison Representative.  Mr. Mikolajewski is the Director of the Office of Business Resources for the City of Madison.   First appointed 7-3-2007.

KAIL, 2334 Superior Street, 53704 (12th A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of CPD Member or Citizen.  Ms. Kail served thirteen years on the Citizens Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities.  She is very concerned about issues that involve people with disabilities.  Ms. Kail succeeds Michael L. Bunting.

JOHN D. KRULL, 245 S. Park Street # 606, 53715 (13th A.D.) - appoint to a one year term to the position of First Alternate.  Mr. Krull has lived independently in Madison for over twenty years, and he travels throughout the city via Madison Metro.  These experiences have given him insight on how to make parking and transportation services more accessible for people with disabilities. He succeeds William J. Tangney.

RICHARD J. PEARSON, 5030 Lake Mendota Dr, 53705 (19th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Business Owner.  Mr. Pearson has forty years experience as an energy consultant to facility owners/managers, and twenty plus years as principal presenter for "Fundamentals of Energy Audits."  He owns Pearson Engineering LLC.  He succeeds Robert B. Gragson.
