To the President and members of the Common Council:

 

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.  "Statement of Interests" forms are on file with the City Clerk's Office for those appointees required to file.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

 

Pursuant to Sec. 3.27(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, " … provisions of this section shall not necessarily apply with reference to membership on special study committees where in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of certain nonresident members who are particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience … ."

 

BID BOARD

 

LARRY E. LICHTE, 2 Thorstrand Rd., 53703 (19th A.D.) - appointed to a three-year term to a newly created position of Capitol Square Area Business Owner - West Main Street Area.  Mr. Lichte is self employed as an attorney, realtor and developer.  He formerly served on the Board of Review for many years.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2008.

 

*PATRICK L. MCGOWAN, Waunakee - appointed to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of State Street Area - Property/Business Owner.  Mr. McGowan is President of University Book Store, 711 State Street.  He succeeds Dale Henricks who retired.

TERM EXPIRES:  1-18-2008.

 

Rationale (and recommendation from DMI): Pat has been working for the University Book Store for 14 years and has served as its President since May of 2004. The University Book Store is an integral part of the business district and supports their programming. Pat, as President, has an important perspective for the board in terms of his student clients, as part of UBS' location within the BID, and as an energetic contributor of his time and ideas.

 

CANVASSERS, BOARD OF

 

SUSAN A. HAMBLIN, 9 Eastbourne Cir., 53717-1219 (9th A.D.) - move from the position of Alternate and appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident replacing Roberta Kiesow who resigned.  Ms. Hamblin was first appointed 1-16-2001.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-1-2007.

 

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION BOARD

 

RICHARD C. SCHULTZ, 1509 Tarragon Dr., 53716-1856 (16th A.D.) - appointed to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Citizen Member.  Mr. Schultz is a retired school psychologist.  He succeeds Laura Hisey who moved to Texas.

TERM EXPIRES: 4-30-2007.

 

PARKING COUNCIL FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

 

MICHAEL L. BUNTING, 1221 E. Gorham St., 53703 (2nd A.D.) - appointed to a one-year term to the position of Alternate.  Mr. Bunting is retired.   He has assisted homeless persons in applying for SSI, food stamps and public housing.  He succeeds Justin Sugden who resigned.

TERM EXPIRES: 3-29-2006.

PAUL R. REILLY, 1218 Alexandria La., 53718-8252 (16th A.D.) - reappointed to a five-year term to the position of Adult City Resident.  First appointed 4-18-2000.

SUSAN D. CANTY, 6 Bishops Hill Cir., 53717-2200 (9th A.D.) - appointed to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of CDA Commissioner.  Ms. Canty was appointed to the CDA on 5-4-2004.  She succeeds Gregg Shimanski who resigned.

AMY M.G. SANDY, 612 Pickford St., 53711 (10th A.D.) - Ms. Sandy is marketing director for WeatherNet, Inc.  This position did not have an incumbent.

 

STREETCAR STUDY COMMITTEE

 

TRANSPORT 2020 MEMBERS

Recommendations made by Transport 2020 co-chairs Ken Golden and Scott McDonnell in consultation with the mayor.

 

JOHN DELAMATER, 2015 Chadbourne Ave., 53726 (5th A.D.) - Mr. DeLamater is a professor of Sociology at the UW-Madison Center for Demography and Ecology and is very knowledgeable about rail transit.

 

SUPV. CHUCK ERICKSON, 1541 Jefferson St., 53711 (13th A.D.) - Supv. Erickson is a member of the Dane County Board.

 

*RANDY ROMANSKI, 5400 Monona Ridge, Monona, 53716 - Mr. Romanski is an executive assistant for the State Department of Transportation. 

 

Rationale:  Mr. Romanski's transportation expertise will be a valuable asset to the committee.

LYNN M. GREEN, 6709 Old Sauk Rd., 53705 (19th A.D.) - Ms. Green is the director of the Dane County Human Services Department.

 

County Board Supervisor of the District:

 

ROBERT C. FYRST, 4214 Warwick Way, 53711-3819 (10th A.D.) - Supervisor Fyrst has represented the Allied Drive neighborhood as County Board Supervisor for five years.

 

Representatives of Community Groups Active in the Area:

 

CHARMAINE D. DRAKE, 7270 Old Sauk Rd., 53717-1211 (9th A.D.) - Ms. Drake is a school social worker employed by the Madison Metropolitan School District.  She has worked with Allied students, families and community organizations.  She is active in several organizations including serving as chair of the Volunteers for the annual Allied Festival. 

 

*LINDSEY A. MCCLERNAN, 5146 Anton Dr. #217, 53713 - Ms. McClernan is a program assistant for the Dane County Parent Council, Inc.  She is a member of the Allied Neighborhood Association, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Allied Advisory Committee.
