Commending and recognizing Tom Lynch for his service, leadership and contributions to the City of Madison as the Director of Transportation.

Body

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch joined the City of Madison in 2018 as Director of Madison’s reformed Transportation Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch led the newly formed Transportation Department to shift the paradigm to provide a more integrated, sustainable, and safe transportation system; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch helped initiate, support, and champion major sustainable transportation policy initiatives such as Complete Green Streets, Vision Zero, Transit Network Redesign, Transportation Demand Management, and possible future passenger rail initiatives; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch helped lead, guide, and coordinate major transportation infrastructure investments that will shape Madison’s transportation infrastructure for decades; and

 

WHEREAS, these investments included Metro’s Hanson Road satellite facility, East-West Bus Rapid Transit, the Wilson Street garage, the Lake Street garage; the Inter-city Bus Terminal; a possible future North-South Bus Rapid Transit line; and improved all ages and abilities bike facilities, and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch grew the Department of Transportation and facilitated the successful transition and integration of the Crossing Guard Program and Parking Enforcement Program into the Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch played a critical role representing the City and working with the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Stoughton Road North, Stoughton Road South and I-39/90/94 projects; and

 

WHEREAS, the success of all of these initiatives required effective coordination with Madison residents, elected officials, and state agencies; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom Lynch’s impact on Madison’s transportation system have been transformative, consequential, and will last for decades; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the residents of the City of Madison, through the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deep appreciation to Tom Lynch for leading the Department to provide a sustainable transportation system needed for Madison’s future; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City Staff, Mayor, and Alders wish Tom success as he pursues the next phase in his contribution.
