Honoring the life of Jeff Erlanger.
Body
WHEREAS, Jeff Erlanger was a vibrant force in Madison community until his death on June 11, 2007; and
 
WHEREAS, he will be remembered for his service to the City of Madison through his membership on the Commission on People with Disabilities, the Affirmative Action Commission, the ADA Transit Subcommittee to the Transit and Parking Commission, the Economic Development Commission and the Parking Council for People with Disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, Jeff previously served on the City's Ad Hoc Committee for the Department of Civil Rights, the DCR Advisory Committee and the Joint Southeast Campus Area Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, he was community-minded having been President of the State-Langdon Neighborhood Association, serving on the Board for the Community Living Alliance and running for a seat on the Common Council; and
 
WHEREAS, he was tireless in his advocacy to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities in our community.  His efforts included working to obtain audible signals in his neighborhood; being consulted by the Mayor's office on the Downtown Safety Initiative; being the force behind the recent Mayor's conference on accessible housing held in April; meeting with Union Cab regarding efforts to project the need to increase accessible taxis; and campaigned for the establishment of the Disability Rights and Services Program as a separate unit within the newly formed Department of Civil Rights (DCR); and assisted the Mayor and the Department as needed to further the formation of the DCR; and
 
WHEREAS, he was always kind and polite to his aides and introduced them to anyone they had not met; and
 
WHEREAS, his sunny, smiling face and determined spirit will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate to know or work with him;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison honor the life and accomplishments of Jeff Erlanger and extend their condolences to his family and friends in this time of loss.
