Sufficient funds ($223,000) are available in the 2007 Planning & Development Operating Budget to cover the recommended grant amounts that total $115,107, plus $61,789 to cover previous years' outstanding grants, and a $22,300 set aside for design assistance and maintenance reserves, for a total of $199,196.

Body
WHEREAS the Neighborhood Grants Program provides funds to neighborhood organizations for activities that promote strong neighborhoods, and includes grants for Community Enhancement projects, Neighborhood Leadership and Capacity-Building activities, and Neighborhood Planning; and
 
WHEREAS in 2007 this program was moved from the Planning Division's Capital Budget to its Operating Budget, which requires $61,789 to be reserved to cover outstanding grants awarded in prior years but not encumbered in the Capital Budget; and
 
WHEREAS the 2007 Neighborhood Grants Program includes a mini-grant component where applicants could request up to $500 with no match requirement and a neighborhood grant component where applicants could request up to $20,000 with a some level of matching funds required; and
 
WHEREAS 15 eligible mini-grant applications were submitted requesting a total of $7,208, and 17 eligible neighborhood grant applications were submitted requesting a total of $145,304; and
 
WHEREAS a Planning Division Staff Review Team convened to review applications and make recommendations for funding (including conditions to be included in the grant agreements); and
 
WHEREAS the Planning Division Staff Review Team recommends awarding 8 mini grants totaling $3,708 and 15 neighborhood grants totaling $111,399, as well as setting aside $61,789 to cover outstanding grants awarded in prior years, and $22,300 for design assistance and maintenance reserves, for a total budget of $199,196. A copy of said recommendations that are attached hereto and made a part hereof.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby approves the 2007 Neighborhood Grants Program recommendations and conditions made by the Staff Review Team and authorizes the Planning Division Director, Comptroller and City Attorney to execute grant agreements on behalf of the City.
