Title
Requesting approval to hire Strang Inc. to provide architectural and engineering design consultant services to remodel Fire Station No. 2. (19th AD)
Body
WHEREAS the 2007 Capital Budget includes an amount of $120,000 for architectural and engineering consultant design services, an Architect consultant must be hired to design this project; and,
WHEREAS the total contract compensation for architectural and engineering design services for Strang Inc. is $95,000; and,
WHEREAS the project is the development and preparation of designs, plans and specifications, preparation of bid documents, assistance in the bid process and construction administration for the design and construction of improvements for Fire Station No. 2 located at 421 Grand Canyon Drive; and,
WHEREAS the project is to remodel the existing 2-story fire station constructed in 1979; and,
WHEREAS the remodeled fire station will be designed to provide living and sleeping quarters for a double company plus two officer quarters with modifications and upgrades to existing support spaces such as toilet rooms, shower rooms, kitchen, dining, gym room, day room, laundry, and similar areas; and,
WHEREAS the project will include the design of energy conservation upgrades to include heating equipment replacement, kitchen hood motor replacement and make-up air unit, and upgrade all electrical lighting to newer energy efficient fixtures; and,
WHEREAS the project will include the design of a new automatic fire sprinklers system throughout entire building to meet current building code and life safety standards; and,
WHEREAS Strang Inc. located at 6411 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin, has been selected through the “Request for Qualifications” process and “Final Interview” process, and is the final selected candidate in accordance with MGO Section 4.26 of Madison General Ordinances and in accordance with APM No. 3-3 of Administrative Procedure Memorandum; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council hereby authorizes the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a contract for purchase of services, in a form to be approved by the City Attorney, with Strang Inc. to provide professional architectural and engineering design services to remodel Fire Station No. 2.
