I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen appointments.  "Statements of Interests" forms are on file in the City Clerk's Office for those appointees required to file.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

 

Pursuant to Sec. 3.27(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, " … provisions of this section shall not necessarily apply with reference to membership on special study committees where in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of certain nonresident members who are particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience … ."

 

DOWNTOWN COORDINATING COMMITTEE

 

ROSEMARY LEE, 111 W. Wilson St. #108, 53703 (4th A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Citizen.  Ms. Lee is employed part time as a seminar aide at the Fluno Center. She succeeds Paul Haskew who is resigning.

VALERIE A. BROWN, 617 E. Dayton St. Unit A, 53703 (2nd A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Citizen Member.  Ms. Brown is an advocate for Access to Independence.  She has participated in polling place accessibility evaluations.

PEDESTRIAN/BICYCLE/MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSION

 

PATRICIA A. BALL, 1817 Sachtjen St., 53704 (12th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a one-year term to the position of Second Alternate Member.  Ms. Ball is a retail manager employed at Vintage Door.  She is an avid bike rider for both transportation and long-distance rides.  She succeeds Carl Kugler who resigned.

DURRELL B. RAMER, 5706 Piping Rock Rd., 53711-3419 (1st A.D.) - Mr. Ramer is a systems pricing manager for Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.  He is active in the Falk PTO and attends Greentree Neighborhood Association meetings.

 

Meadowood Neighborhood Representatives (two):

LAWRENCE G. LUTHER, JR., 1702 Golden Oak La., 53711 (20th A.D.) - Mr. Luther is a light vehicle operator for the State of Wisconsin Highway Department.  He is president of the Meadowood Neighborhood Association, and he has been a resident of the west side for 30 years.

 

ANN M. BARKER, 2109 Iris La., 53711 (20th A.D.) - Ms. Barker is an administrative assistant at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Raymond Road.  She has lived in the area for more than 15 years.

JOEL KUPFERBERG, 5754 Meadowood Dr., 53711-4223 (20th A.D.) - Mr. Kupferberg is a retired business owner.  He has lived in the neighborhood for 39 years.  He is a former member of the State Street Mall Operating Committee and Vending Oversight Committee.

 

Orchard Ridge Neighborhood:

KARA K. BOELDT, 5402 Tolman Terr., 53711 (20th A.D.) - Ms. Boeldt is a realtor for Keller Williams Realty.  She has knowledge of the area and the zoning ordinances.  She is a member of the Orchard Ridge Community Club and the Oversight Committee neighborhood watch.

 

Alternate:

THOMAS G. MCKENNA, 5013 Black Oak Dr., 53711-3613 (20th A.D.) - Mr. McKenna is employed by Educational Support Programs, LLC and works with the school district's special education medicaid reimbursement.  His father developed Orchard Ridge with the idea of a diverse socio-economic mixture, and he would like to work to continue that vision.  He is a board member of the Orchard Ridge Community Club.

 

Park Ridge Neighborhood:

KAREN M. SIELAFF, 14 Georgetown Ct., 53719 (1st A.D.) - Ms. Sielaff is a nurse with Wisconsin Heart, SC.  She has organized activities for the children and neighbors in the neighborhood.  She has served as treasurer of the Park Ridge Homeowners Association for the past three years.

SANDRA L. ERICKSON, 6828 Park Ridge Dr., 53719 (1st A.D.) - Ms. Erickson is director of community building for United Way of Dane County.  She has been a condo owner in the neighborhood since 1997.

 

Prairie Hills Neighborhood:

SUSAN CLAY, 6741 Hammersley Rd., 53711 (1st A.D.) - Ms. Clay is child care volunteer.  She volunteers at Falk and Toki Schools.  She previously worked with teens in Chicago.

MARGARET M. LISS, 6413 Jacobs Way, 53711 (1st A.D.) - Ms. Liss is retired.  She volunteers for the Park Hills Neighborhood Association and is currently working toward improving the playground equipment at Lucy Lincoln Heistand Park.  She is active in the Neighborhood Watch Program.

DE'KENDREA B. STAMPS, 5838 Russett Rd. #2, 53711 (20th A.D.) - Ms. Stamps is a graduate student assistant for the UW-Madison PEOPLE Program.  She currently works part time in the Meadowood neighborhood on the Move project as a neighborhood liaison.

 

LISA B. SUBECK, 818 S. Gammon Rd. #4, 53719 (1st A.D.) - Ms. Subeck is coordinator of a transitional housing program for the YWCA.  She is active in the Woodhill Condo Association.  She is an advocate for neighborhood needs.

TIMOTHY J. JOHNSON, 5714 Russett Rd. #3, 53711 (20th A.D.) - Mr. Johnson owns and is an occupant of a 4-unit apartment on Russett Road, as well as owning other rental units.  He is a neighborhood representative and serves on the Meadowood Neighborhood Association.

 

ERNEST E. HORINEK, 1414 Stemp Terrace, 53711 (20th A.D.) - Mr. Horinek has lived in the area for forty years.  He and his wife have been leaders in property management on Raymond Road and Balsam Road.  He is active in the Madison Apartment Association. 

 

RICHARD L. STIRR, 7510 Red Fox Trail, 53717 (9th A.D.) - Mr. Stirr is a captain with American Airlines.  He has actively managed rental units in the Betty's Lane, Theresa Terrace neighborhood for three years.

*CHRISTOPHER J. LAURENT, 2239 Steven St., Sun Prairie, WI 53590 - appoint to the position of Developer.  Mr. Laurent is senior development manager for Gorman & Company.

 

Rationale:  Mr. Laurent is a developer who works in the Madison area.

 

THOMAS E. HIRSCH, 14 N. Allen St., 53726-3924 (5th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Housing Committee Member.  Mr. Hirsch is a self-employed architect.

*RON K. JAMES, 5407 Wellington Cir., McFarland, WI 53558 - appoint to the position of Representative of the Business Community.  Mr. James is the store manager for Pierce's Northside Market, 2817 N. Sherman Ave.

 

Rationale:  Mr. James manages what is currently the anchor tenant in the Sherman Plaza directly across the street from Warner Park.

 

*JOHN D. CHADIMA, 5476 Walden Bay Dr., Waunakee, WI 53597 - appoint to the position of Representative of the Design Community Familiar with Sports Facility Renovation Issues.  Mr. Chadima is the associate athletic director for operations at the UW-Madison Athletic Department.

 

                     Currently serving on:                     Joint Southeast Campus Area Committee (UW-Madison Athletics Representative)

 

Rationale:  Mr. Chadima has an in-depth knowledge of sports facilities.  He oversaw and supervised the design and construction of the renovation of Camp Randall Stadium and the Porter Boathouse.  He has been involved in many other sports-related facility projects.

 

STEPHEN A. WEBSTER, 1414 Lake View Ave., 53704 (18th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Neighborhood Representative.  Mr. Webster is a professional experienced social planner and community developer. He is a life-long Madison resident and uses the parks year round.

DAVID J. MEYER, 2302 Calypso Rd., 53704 (12th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Neighborhood Representative.  Mr. Meyer is self employed in sales and marketing.  He and his family have lived on the north side for over twenty years.  He has been active in the Brentwood Village Association and served as president for three years.

 

BETTY N. MACDONALD, 2126 Vilas Ave., 53711 (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Park Commission Member.  Ms. MacDonald has served on the Park Commission since May, 2004.
