Commending Jim Fleming of Wisconsin Public Radio on his retirement after 36 years of dedicated service.
Body
WHEREAS, Jim Fleming has served the cause of public broadcasting in Wisconsin during a 36-year career at Wisconsin Public Radio, capped by18 years as host of three well-known programs on Wisconsin Public Radio and serving the University of Wisconsin and the State of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, from 1979 to 1984 Jim Fleming was the Producer and Host of Prelude, a Morning Drive time Classical Music and Arts Program bringing music and cultural programming to the State of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, from 1981 to 1987 Jim Fleming served as a Program Manager at Wisconsin Public Radio working in the capacity to provide creative and engaging programs to listeners; and
WHEREAS, from 1987 to 1990 Jim Fleming was the Associate Director of Wisconsin Public Radio, part of the University of Wisconsin - Extension, coordinating the work of Wisconsin's premier Ideas and NPR/Classical Music Networks; and
WHEREAS, for 18 years, Jim Fleming served as Host and Producer of To The Best Of Our Knowledge, supervising and hosting the audio magazine bringing entertaining radio to curious minds on the Ideas Network of Wisconsin Public Radio and throughout the country with this nationally-recognized program; and
WHEREAS, for 18 years, Jim Fleming was the Host of Morning Classics, bringing hours of classical music to listeners on the NPR News and Classical Music Network of Wisconsin Public Radio; and
WHEREAS, for 18 years, Jim Fleming was the Host of Chapter A Day, reading entertaining and enlightening stories to listeners on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, for 36 years Jim Fleming has been a steady and important part of Wisconsin Public Radio, a mainstay of Wisconsin's voice of culture and information; and
WHEREAS, Jim Fleming has furthered the reputation of Wisconsin Public Radio and the University of Wisconsin via appearances at music festivals, live remote broadcasts and concerts, and concert recordings; and
WHEREAS, Jim Fleming has been instrumental in maintaining the high broadcast standards and loyal listenership of Wisconsin Public Radio through 18 years of weekday broadcasts; and
WHEREAS, Jim Fleming has served as a liaison between Wisconsin Public Radio and national-level performers and producers; and
WHEREAS, Jim Fleming has represented Wisconsin and Midwestern sensibilities through 18 years of engaging, informative, plainspoken broadcasts of classical music and Ideas Network programming;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council do hereby offer, on behalf of the City of Madison and his many national admirers, great thanks and appreciation for the many years of service and devotion of Jim Fleming; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council wish him well and direct that he enjoy his retirement, including family, his two-year-old grandson, traveling, reading, and listening to music, in perpetuity.
