I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

CAPITAL AREA REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION

 

NICHOLAS ZAVOS (13th A.D.) - reappoint to the three-year term to the position of Mayor’s Appointee. First appointed 10-20-2020.

LAKES AND WATERSHED COMMISSION

PHIL D. GAEBLER (6th A.D.) - appointed to the position of Mayor or Designee succeeding Carly Michiels. Phil Gaebler is the water resources engineer for the City of Madison Engineering Department.

MADISON ARTS COMMISSION

 

BARBARA CHUSID (15th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Resident Member succeeding Lance M. Owens. Barbara Chusid is a musician and retired music teacher having taught in Madison public schools for 32 years. She serves on WORT’s Community Advisory Board and serves as an advisor to Girls Rock Camp.

TERM EXPIRES: 4-30-2024

 

T.L. LUKE (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Resident Member succeeding Katie H. Ryan. T.L. Luke is a professional illustrator and owner of T.L. Luke Art. They have extensive experience in the arts community and previously served as the exhibitions manager for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.

ROOM TAX COMMISSION

 

TOM ZIARNIK (1st A.D.) - reappoint to a one-year term to the position of Hotel/Motel Industry Representative. First appointed 7-5-2016.

*SALLY MILEY, Middleton - reappoint to a one-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. First appointed 7-5-2016.

TERM EXPIRES: 7-5-2024

 

Rationale: Sally Miley has been a member of this body since its inception in 2016 and currently serves as its chair. A former alder and deputy mayor, she brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. Her finance education and city government experience, as well as her leadership skills, make her a valuable member of this commission.

 

GLENN KRIEG (19th A.D.) - reappoint to a one-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. First appointed 7-5-2016.

SYLVIA MOSS (16th A.D.) - reappoint to a one-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. First appointed 7-5-2016.

SISTER CITY COLLABORATION COMMITTEE

 

RICHARD A. HEINEMANN (5th A.D.- appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Richard Heinemann is an attorney with Boardman & Clark. He has spent two years living abroad and has studied several languages including German and Spanish. He is a former member of the City’s Sustainable Madison Committee and has served on local boards such as the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.

WATER UTILITY BOARD

 

DEB SIMON (19th A.D.) - reappoint to a five-year term to the position of Member. First appointed 11-20-2018.
