Changing the existing name of Whenona Drive to Cochise Trail from Clover Court to the existing north terminus at vacated Whenona Drive, also being the Daisy Drive Bike Path and Marlborough Park Bike Path Spur at Marlborough Park.

WHEREAS, the Common Council, by Resolution No. 12,459 adopted March 9, 1967, has approved a master list of street names and designations for all purposes; and
WHEREAS, Sections 10.34(1) and 10.35, Madison General Ordinances, require the City Engineer to maintain certain street numbering maps; and
WHEREAS, the Subdivision Plat of Rosedale, was recorded January 27, 1917 in the Town of Fitchburg (Now City of Madison), in Volume 5 of Plats, Page 30A, as Document No. 359532, Dane County Registry; and
WHEREAS, the Subdivision Plat of Rosedale named the subject segment of street as Arbutus Trail; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison annexed this area per Ordinance No. 516 adopted August 8, 1957; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison changed the street name of Arbutus Trail to Whenona Drive per Ordinance No. 582, File No. 4437, adopted December 12, 1957; and
WHEREAS, the Subdivision Plat of Park Addition to Belmar, was recorded October 15, 1976 in the Town of Fitchburg (Now City of Fitchburg), in Volume 45 of Plats, Page 6, as Document No. 1491289, Dane County Registry; and
WHEREAS, the Subdivision Plat of East Hill Addition to Belmar, was recorded October 15, 1976 in the Town of Fitchburg (Now City of Fitchburg), in Volume 45 of Plats, Pages 8 and 9, as Document No. 1491310, Dane County Registry; and
WHEREAS, both the East Hill and Park Additions to Belmar named the subject segment of street from Sentinel Pass to Clover Court as Whenona Drive; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fitchburg changed the name of Whenona Drive as identified in both the East Hill and Park Additions to Belmar per Ordinance No. 95-0-06, adopted March 28, 1995 for the segment of street within the City of Fitchburg jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, the current corporate boundary between the Cities of Madison and Fitchburg follows the centerline of this subject street and requires the City of Madison to change the name of the street segment with the City of Madison jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has no properties addressed to this segment of Whenona Drive; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fitchburg has confirmed that all six Fitchburg properties abutting this subject street segment are using a Cochise Trail address; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has a public street sign at the intersection of Whenona Drive with Clover Court, and only has a Clover Court street sign plaque at that intersection; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has a Whenona Drive public street sign at the north terminus of Whenona Drive at the entrance of Marlborough Park together with the Daisy Drive Bike Path and Marlborough Park Bike Path Spur sign plaques; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Engineering Division supports the request of changing the name of Whenona Drive and has reviewed and approved the proposed name, as previously changed by the City of Fitchburg, of Cochise Trail.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by approval of this Resolution, the City of Madison Common Council hereby approves the subject street name change from Whenona Drive to Cochise Trail and amendment of Sections 10.34(1) and 10.35, Madison General Ordinances, thereto; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, upon adoption of this street name change Resolution, the City of Madison traffic Engineering Division shall accordingly change the two existing street name signs. One sign at the intersection of Clover Court and the other being the sign at the north terminus of said street at the entrance to Marlborough Park.
