I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.  "Statement of Interests" forms are on file for those appointees required to file.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, " … provisions of this section shall not necessarily apply with reference to membership on special study committees where in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of certain nonresident members who are particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience … ."

Rationale:  Attorney Jeff Bartell has served the MT Board with great ability and dedication since his appointment.  His significant civil involvement and investment of personal time to Madison's cultural and business life is second to none.  He has developed close working relationships with civic and business leaders in our community which have proven very helpful to Monona Terrace's activities.  He chaired the board's 10-year anniversary celebration and he headed up the review of the board's bylaws.
 
Recently, he was deeply involved in the discussions that led to the Downtown Hotel Feasibility Study recently completed, which helps inform the city's negotiations with Marcus Hotels regarding the possible construction of a hotel at the Madison Municipal Building block.
