A resolution approving Facade Improvement Grants to 1875 Monroe Street (Neuhauser Pharmacy) and 2110 Atwood Avenue (Dobhan Restuarant).
Body
On February 3, 2004, the Common Council adopted Resolution ID # 61179, approving the Facade Improvement Grant Program to support and encourage small local businesses to reinvest in the downtown and smaller, neighborhood shopping and business areas.  The grants are matching grants and will be provided in an amount up to 50% of the total project costs up to a maximum of $10,000 for a single facade, $20,000 for a building with two facades, and $25,000 for a "flatiron" building.  The objective of the Program is to restore, or substantially beautify, or enhance the entire facade or elevation of a commercial building.  These facade proposals have been reviewed by the Facade Improvement Grant Staff Team and meet the requirements of the Facade Improvement Grant Program. The Urban design Commission has reviewed these facade proposals and recommends design approval.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council does hereby approve the following facade improvement grants:
 
  Neuhauser Pharmacy Bldg. 1875 Monroe Street)
Facade grant not to exceed $20,000
  RX Two, LLC
Estimated total project cost $63,940
Work covers removing existing awning, restoring original Luxfer prism transom glass on front of building, adding new stain glass window in transom above main entryway entrance, restoring copper panels below glass store front, replacing pharmacy sign, removal of existing storm windows on second floor and replacement with new low-profile storm windows specifically designed for historic restoration projects, restoring original double hung windows on second floor, restoring original paneled overheads on outside of building, and restoring the original stained art glass windows on first floor.

Work covers cleaning and restoring existing masonry, removing the old store front (Including the plywood infill, and corrugated metal) and replacing it with a new clear glazed/clear anodized aluminum storefront with new transom windows, constructing new storefront base to be faced with cut-stone, constructing new foundation wall and installing a new ramp to replace the existing step, removal of existing pair of doors and replacement with a single new recessed door to the north, relocating existing electrical service below grade, and adding new sign and lighting into recessed brick area above the front.  
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk be and hereby are authorized to execute grant agreements with these grantees and any other documents necessary to complete these improvements.
