Fiscal Note
This resolution extends an agreement which provides an annual contribution to Metro. It will have a positive impact on Metro's budget during the three -year contract term.

Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an agreement with Sam Van Galder USA, Inc., a Coach USA Company, that would extend an existing three-year agreement by three years for provision by Van Galder of an annual contribution of $24,000 to Metro Transit, City transit utility, for each of the next three years to help defray the cost to Metro Transit annually for maintenance of the Dutch Mill Park & Ride lot.

PREAMBLE
In May, 1984, the State of Wisconsin and City of Madison entered into a Lease Agreement wherein the State would build, at its expense, the Dutch Mill Park & Ride lot, providing major capital maintenance from time-to-time, and the City would maintain the lot: providing snow clearance, litter clearance, general upkeep, electricity for lighting the lot, signage, and provide connecting transit service into Madison. Metro was assigned the responsibility by the City to provide the connecting transit service and to perform and bear the expense of the aforementioned lot maintenance expenses. As a result of discussions in the spring of 2002, at the request of Metro the City entered into a three-year agreement with Sam Van Galder, Inc, a Coach USA Company, wherein Van Galder would make a contribution each year to Metro to help defray maintenance expenses for the lot. Van Galder has used the Dutch Mill Park & Ride lot as a major Madison area boarding and parking site for its customers going between the Madison area and Chicago O'Hare Airport, downtown Chicago, and elsewhere.
This is the first extension of that original agreement and it is also for a three-year term, from May 31, 2005 to May 30, 2008. This agreement provides for a maintenance of effort by Van Galder at the $24,000 level for each year of the agreement.
WHEREAS the City of Madison has an agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation wherein the City will maintain the Dutch Mill Park & Ride lot;
WHEREAS the City wishes to extend an initial three-year agreement with Van Galder to provide a contribution each year to Metro to help defray on-going maintenance expenses of the lot from through May 30, 2008;
WHEREAS Van Galder has agrees to the stated terms of extension of the agreement;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to enter into an agreement with Van Sam Van Galder, Inc. , a Coach USA Company, for the aforementioned contribution by Van Galder to Metro Transit, the City Transit Utility, for annual contributions as mentioned
for each year of the contract term.
