Report of the Mayor submitting resident committee appointments (introduction 3/5/2019; action 3/19/2019).

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION COMMISSION

 

ADAM C. SMITH (7th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Mr. Smith is a teacher with the Madison Metropolitan School District. He is the current president of the Ice Age Falls homeowners association. Mr. Smith succeeds Laura L. Sorensen.

TERM EXPIRES: 4-21-2020

 

 

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES COMMISSION

 

BETHANY L. MATSON (16th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Ms. Matson is a social worker with Dane County Department of Human Services. She serves on the Dane County Coordinated Community Response Team and is the current vice-president of AFSCME Local 2634 employee group. Ms. Matson succeeds Arlette Kambwa-Gitau.

TERM EXPIRES: 4-20-2021

 

LUKE B. SCHIEVE (9th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Mr. Schieve is a commercial & production manager with American Family Insurance. He is currently enrolled in an MBA program with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Mr. Schieve succeeds Adam W. Brabender.

TERM EXPIRES: 4-16-2019

 

 

LANDLORD & TENANT ISSUES COMMITTEE

 

BRIANNA K. KOERTH (4th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a one-year term to the position of Alternate. Ms. Koerth is a political science student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is employed as a marketing associate with the Madison Children’s Museum. Ms. Koerth recently served as the chair of the College Democrats of UW-Madison. She succeeds Soong Kit Wong who assumed a regular position.

MADISON'S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) BOARD

 

Note: Per the Business Improvement District [BID] Operating Plan as approved by the Common Council, “Wisconsin Statutes section 66.1109(3) (a) requires that the Board be composed of at least five members and that a majority of the Board members shall either own or occupy real property in the District.  If the actual property or business owner is an entity, that entity shall designate a representative to act on its behalf.”

 

*GRANT FRAUTSCHI, Village of Maple Bluff - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of State Street Area Property Owner.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2021

 

Rationale:  Mr. Frautschi has a passion for Madison and is a State Street area property owner.
