Recognizing and commending Dorothy Engsberg on her retirement after more than 34 years of dedicated service as a City employee.
 
Body
WHEREAS Dorothy Engsberg began work with the City of Madison in the Personnel/Human Resources Department on August 29, 1977, completing her City service as Human Resources Analyst, and will begin retirement in November, 2011 after completion of the City's most challenging health insurance enrollment; and
 
WHEREAS in more than 34 years of employment she served with six Personnel/Human Resources Directors under five mayors and worked directly or indirectly with all employees in her work administering benefits for City employees; and    
 
WHEREAS Dorothy was an early advocate for and user of electronic record keeping, improving services to employees and enhancing the Human Resources Department's ability to effectively administer benefits; and
 
WHEREAS her knowledge, dedication and commitment to her work have extended to the state agencies, insurance and financial providers who are part of the City's benefits programs; and
 
WHEREAS Dorothy has annually provided information sessions for employee health insurance enrollment, provided retirement information sessions, conducted employee orientation from time to time, and responded to telephone and in-person inquiries in great numbers, always assuring that information is accurate and well-understood; and
 
WHEREAS she has met with each employee preparing to retire from City employment, identifying choices and clarifying requirements; and
 
WHEREAS Dorothy extended kindness and compassion in the course of her duties to lighten some of the burdens encountered by employees:     
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby commend Ms. Dorothy Engsberg for her service to the City, for the excellence of her work and her significant accomplishments and for her public service to the City of Madison, Wisconsin.
