Dear Julia-

Hopefully I will be seeing you at the Monroe St Library tonight to discuss the pending application for a liquor store in the 1900 block of Monroe St.

Even though I live just a half block from the proposed sight, my primary concern is for the rental house that I own just 6 feet from the rear entrance to the store. (see attached photos).

Is there no legal limit as to how far a liquor store must be from a residence? The delivery door is just 20 feet from the bedroom window of the residents, and the property line is 6 feet from the window. Can you imagine listening to the unloading of hundreds of cases of bottles and cans just 20 feet from you bed at 7:00 in the morning, possibly with the exhaust pipe just a few feet from your open window, who-knows-how-many times a week?  Further, the dumpster for the business is even closer than the delivery door! Trucks would come down the driveway, headlights shining directly into the bedroom window on winter mornings, emptying the dumpster, and destroying any chance of peace and quiet in the process. It could make sleeping in their bedroom sheer Hell.

There are cars that sit out front of my own residence at night on Van Buren St, just 50 feet away from the proposed sight, with single occupants in them who just sit there and drink. I don't know who they are or what they're doing, but I wonder how many may be watching or waiting for wives or girlfriends at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Center across the street? This is just not a positive location for easy alcohol purchases.

Please do what you can to prevent the sale of alcohol at this location.

Thank you- Tom Turnquist, 2002 Madison St

I think the meeting should be in the evening and not at their resturant, which is pretty far for neighbors to walk.  Given the high amount of interest in this among neighbors, Vilas NA should be making it as easy as possible for people to attend.

I spoke briefly with a son of Mr. Singh today (Sumanjit? I'm not certain.). They own the Taste of India restaurant on Monroe Street and a new restaurant downtown on W. Mifflin called Taste of India. The family also owns restaurants in Brookfield and Green Bay, according to the website.

We agreed to talk tomorrow about their plans. I will express the neighborhood's interest in meeting with them. With their restaurant businesses I expect that a meeting during the day is preferable from their perspective, but not sure what to suggest since I don't know anyone else's schedule. Might Saturday afternoon September 11th at Taste of India work? Any input would be welcomed, especially since I have limited availability this month.

The young man I spoke with said he had already talked with the police, so perhaps Dave Dexheimer isn't as interested?

But today it was confirmed that the ALRC hearing/meeting is the 29th and I will now contact Mr. Singh to express our interest in meeting with him. I am limited to Sept. 7th evening (a Tuesday, which I know conflicts for Julia), or the 11th-14th. Perhaps the weekend of Sept 11-12 might work for a majority? But Officer Dexheimer and Julia seem like especially important attendees, and I don't have to be there if they and others are available. Let me start with Mr. Singh and then report to you all tomorrow.
