Subject: liquor store @ 1935 Monroe
As long term property
owners on Monroe Street and former local business owners, we have
spent many years in support of the creation and maintenance of a quality
shopping area for Monroe Street. The unique quality of the street's
business atmosphere, the surrounding family neighborhood community, and the
cooperation of the business and community leaders has worked to grow a stable
and consistent climate of unique and creative business ventures.
In regard to a carry out
liquor store: There are, within the neighborhood, fine restaurants,
retail store outlets selling liquor/wine/beer, and bars serving alcohol
that deserve support. There are also opportunities for the public to
purchase wine and beer to take away.
As a neighborhood
community, it is our belief that the Monroe St. shopping and neighborhood area
have reached a high density level of alcohol related businesses that the city
should not allow further expansion.
The addition of yet one
more outlet to sell liquor (a liquor store) brings both an unnecessary
direction and excessive proliferation of alcohol and the potential problems
associated with it into the Monroe Street neighborhood community.
We are opposed to this
type of business on Monroe.
