Fiscal Note
The proposed resolution authorizes the Greater Madison Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) on behalf of the City to apply for a $1.3 million Safe Streets and Roads for All Planning Grant administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The MPO would serve as a pass-through agency for the sub-recipient communities listed in the body of this resolution. If awarded, the required 20% local match would be funded by sub-recipient communities. Further, if awarded, the MPO will submit a separate budget amendment to amend its 2025 budget to include the award amount.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison Planning Division provides staffing for the Greater Madison MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) and the city serves as the MPO’s fiscal and administrative agent; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Madison MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization) is the designated MPO for the Madison Metropolitan Area with responsibilities to perform metropolitan transportation planning and programming activities; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Madison MPO is interested in obtaining a Safe Streets and Roads for All Planning Grant from the USDOT for the purposes of assisting local agencies within the MPO’s planning area to develop supplemental safety planning studies to support the MPO’s Regional Safety Action Plan; and
WHEREAS, the grant will provide funding for the following roadway safety planning activities:
1) Up to $300,000 to the City of Fitchburg to develop a Vision Zero Plan,
