Fiscal Note

Donations solicited by Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) members and City staff will be used for the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the EOC. No additional City appropriation required.

Title

Recognizing that private fundraising for the purpose of funding the Equal Opportunities Commission’s 60th Anniversary Celebration will be for a City project and will be conducted by Commission members and City staff.

Body

WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunities Commission was created in December of 1963 after the City of Madison Common Council adopted Section 3.23 of the Madison General Ordinances; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunities Commission studies the existence, character, causes, and extent of the denial of equal opportunity because of sex, race, religion, color, national origin or ancestry, age, handicap, marital status, source of income, arrest or conviction record, less than honorable discharge, physical appearance, sexual orientation, domestic partnership, familial status, political beliefs retaliation, Social Security Number, or fact that person is student, formulates policy on related topics, and more; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunities Commission wishes to raise money to hold a celebration in honor of their 60th Anniversary; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunities Commission is set to host their 60th Anniversary Celebration in November of 2023 at the South Madison Partnership space; and,

 

WHEREAS, the City ethics code provides that City officials and staff may solicit donations from third parties only if the funds are to be used for a City project or conference and if the solicitation has been approved by a resolution of the Common Council; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council recognizes that private fundraising for the purpose of funding the Equal Opportunities Commission’s 60th Anniversary Celebration will be for a City project and will be conducted by Commission members and City staff; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that members of the Equal Opportunities Commission and City staff are authorized to solicit and accept donations to the Equal Opportunities Commission’s 60th Anniversary Celebration fundraiser.
