Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) proposes to be denoted as a subgrantee on the grant application “Pathogen agnostic sequencing of respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses from indoor air samples,” to be led by Drs. David and Shelby O’Connor of the University of Wisconsin.
The project aims to characterize respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses from air samples collected in congregate settings in Dane County. The information gathered will inform PHMDC’s respiratory pathogen surveillance efforts; results are planned to be included on a publicly facing respiratory pathogen surveillance dashboard. With this information, the public will be equipped with more locally-relevant data to respond to viral trends. The funding, if awarded, would be or $25,000 per year for a total of two years.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to accept the inclusion of PHMDC on the stated grant proposal.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County, on behalf of Public Health Madison and Dane County authorizes the Director of Public Health, or their designee, to accept and expend the funding, if awarded, and sign the related agreement, and increase the 2023 Public Health Budget by $50,000.
