Body

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

COMMITTEE ON AGING

 

ULRIKE DIETERLE (5th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Member (55+ Years of Age) succeeding Felicitus E. Ferington. Ulrike Dieterle is retired from the University of Wisconsin where she last served as a medical librarian. She is a former member of the City’s Joint West Campus Area Committee and is the co-president of the Sunset Village Community Association.

OTISTINE T. WILLIAMS (1st A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Member succeeding Eileen D. Mershart. Otistine Williams is the director of pupil services for the Verona Area School District. She is currently working towards her doctorate with a dissertation on race and equality in international education. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT COMMITTEE

 

MEGAN N. MILLER (15th A.D.) - appoint to a one-year term to the position of First Alternate succeeding Tiffany D. Malone who assumed a regular member position. Megan Miller works in the strategic partnerships unit of the Office of University Relations at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a founding board member of the Madison-area Young Non-profit Professionals Network and served two-years with the AmeriCorps VISTA program.

LASHANA MILLER (17th A.D.) - reappoint to a two-year term to the position of Community (Minority) Representative. First appointed 4-29-2014.

LORI E. KIEF (18th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position Resident Member succeeding Gretchen Lowe. Lori Kief is a retired Madison Fire Department Employee and member of AFSCME.

DISABILITY RIGHTS COMMISSION

 

KATIE B. SULLIVAN (8th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident succeeding Betty Hicks. Katie Sullivan is student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a community based learning intern at Morgridge Center for Public Service. She serves as a friend of the University Committee on Disability Access and Inclusion and is the founder/director of a disability activism student organization called The Future is Accessible.

RHIANNON GURLEY (18th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident succeeding Kory S. Macy. Rhiannon Gurley is an arts administrator, event planner and disability advocate. She serves as the operations manager at Our Vibrant Community.

DOWNTOWN COORDINATING COMMITTEE

 

DAVY MAYER (6th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Resident Member. First appointed 10-2-2018.

SANDRA TORKILDSON (2nd A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Resident Member. First appointed 11-19-2013.

Associated Students of Madison recommendation:

DOMINIC ZAPPIA (8th A.D.) - reappoint to of a one-year term to the position of Second Alternate - University of Wisconsin-Madison Student. First appointed 1-4-2022.

TERM EXPIRES: 5-14-2023

 

STEPHEN SMITH (4th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of First Alternate succeeding Lori J. Henn. Stephen Smith is a long-time downtown resident who has been active on several neighborhood steering committees pertaining to downtown developments.

RYAN J. HORTON (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Permanent Downtown Area Resident succeeding Kathy L. Marks. Ryan Horton is a fiscal analyst with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau. He is a downtown resident and has a master’s in urban planning. While living in Milwaukee, he served as a Silver City Main Street volunteer - helping his neighborhood plan for streetscape improvements.

MADISON METROPOLITAN SEWERAGE DISTRICT COMMISSION

 

*GREG FRIES, DeForest - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Commissioner.

TERM EXPIRES: 10-15-2023

 

Rationale: As Assistant City Engineer, Greg Fries oversees sewer operations for the City, which includes coordination with the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District. His position in the City makes him uniquely aware of how Commission decisions relate to and potentially impact the City, and vice versa. He is a long-time trusted public servant and professional engineer with deep knowledge of sewer and stormwater infrastructure issues in the city and in the region.

 

 

MADISON’S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) BOARD

 

NICK NEWLIN (12th A.D.) appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of At Large Central Downtown Representative succeeding Craig Bartlett. Nick Newlin is a vice-president, digital director and senior marketing strategist with Shine United, located on Henry Street. He is familiar with most of the businesses in the BID and is a former downtown resident.

JAIR C. ALVAREZ (9th  A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of City Appointee. First appointed 7-10-2018.

PUBLIC SAFETY REVIEW COMMITTEE

 

JOHNATHAN W.O. DELGADO (17th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Resident Member succeeding Allen M. Rickey. Johnathan Delgado is a currently a student at Madison College with a goal of becoming a certified psychologist in order to serve vulnerable and underserved populations. He has done work for Midwest Mujeres and the Latino Professional Association. He has also volunteered with the United Way of Dane County and Voces de la Frontera.
