The proposed resolution authorizes the acceptance of a $20,000 grant from the National League of Cities, and amends the City Clerk's Office 2021 Adopted Operating Budget. The amendment increases the Clerk's Office purchased services budget by $20,000 to support payments to local partners conducting an equity analysis on how to deepen non-partisan census education and civic engagement with historically undercounted groups.

Body
WHEREAS, the mission of the City Clerk's Office is to provie equitable access to open government by promoting the inclusion and full participation of all residents in the democratic process; and

WHEREAS, the City Clerk's Office has applied for and been awarded a $20,000 National League of Cities Institute's Census & Local Democracy Grant to conduct an equity analysis on how to deepen non-partisan census education and civic engagement with historically undercounted groups by leveraging the momentum, infrastructure, and network of trusted community partners during the 2020 Census; and

WHEREAS, the City Clerk's Office plans to work with community partners to develop increased non-partisan civic engagement leadership among historically under-engaged and under-represented community groups, neighborhoods, and residents as the City of Madison prepares for the final Town of Madison Attachment; and

WHEREAS, the City of Madison has established racial equity and social justice as a core principle in all its decisions, policies, and functions;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor is authorized to execute any documents necessary to carry out the terms of the grant agreement in a form to be approved by the City Attorney; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the 2021 Adopted Operating Budget is amended to appropriate $20,000 from a National League of Cities Grant in the City Clerk's Offi...
