Commending and thanking Alderperson Samba Baldeh for his dedicated service to the constituents in District 17 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Samba Baldeh was elected to the Madison Common Council on April 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh served on the Board of Park Commissioners; City-County Liaison Committee; Common Council Executive Committee; Community Development Block Grant Committee; Community Development Division Conference Committee; Digital Technology Committee; Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee; Finance Committee; Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MPO); President’s Work Group to Develop City-Wide Surveillance Equipment and Data Management Policies; and Sister City Collaboration Committee; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh was elected by his peers to serve as Vice President of the Common Council from 2017-2018 and as President of the Common Council from 2018-2019; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, Alderperson Baldeh organized a city-wide “Know Your Rights” rally against President Trump’s immigration ban, which was attended by over 3,000 people; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh played a leading role in the creation of the new Reindahl Library/Imagination Center; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh helped establish the Equity Business Initiative and the Commercial Ownership Assistance Program; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh was instrumental in increasing funding for the Madison Child Care Program; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Baldeh ensured community input into the intensive development of the far Eastside; and
WHEREAS, Alderperson Samba Baldeh through his hard work and dedication to his aldermanic duties has faithfully and with honor served his constituents and the City of Madison;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Samba Baldeh for his dedicated service to his constituents in District 17 and to the City of Madison.
