Title

Awarding the 13th Annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award to Patty Prime.

Body

WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council created the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award in memory of Jeffrey Erlanger's great contributions to the City of Madison; and,

WHEREAS, the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee has selected Patty Prime, an individual who shares Jeffrey Erlanger's dedication to, and passion for, civility, integrity and individual human rights, as recipient of the 2019 award; and,

WHEREAS, Patty has served as the President of the Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association for five years after additional service on the association board; and,

WHEREAS, Patty’s engaging leadership style encouraged participation as well as collaboration with often large groups with opposing interests, and kept meetings on time; and,

WHEREAS, Patty worked hard to recruit a diverse association board, and reached out to renters and students to serve; and,

WHEREAS, the Tenney-Lapham neighborhood has been under intense development pressure during Patty’s tenure as president and she facilitated dozens of meetings which included attendees with many different perspectives and ideas; and,

WHEREAS, aside from development, Patty’s work has been critical in greenspace preservation, promoting comprehensive transportation safety, retaining ash trees in our parks and approving the development of over 80 existing units and almost 100 units of affordable housing; and,

WHEREAS,  while as Patty Prime has set the standard for civil discourse, she has recently stepped down as association president to allow new leadership to emerge and we wish her a happy retirement, but expect to see her great work in another area soon,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Patty Prime has been chosen to receive the 13th Annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and the Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, congratulate and thank Patty Prime for all she has done, and continues to do, for our Madison community.
