The proposed resolution approves plan documents and authorizes reciept of bids for the annual concrete sidewalk reconstruction and incidental curb and gutter improvements at a total estimated cost of $1,470,000 in 2019 for aldermanic districts 1,7, and 9. Funding is partially provided by $910,000 of GO Borrowing authorized in the Engineering-Ped/Bike adopted 2019 capital budget via the Sidewalk Program. Approximately $560,000 of the total project cost is anticipated to be funded by assessments to property owners.

Body
The Common Council adopted a plan in 1996 to repair defective sidewalk throughout the City on a ten-year cycle. The plan was updated in 2002 and 2012 to reflect the completed work and to incorporate the reconstituted aldermanic districts. The 1st, 7th, and 9th Aldermanic Districts have been scheduled for repair in 2019.
Offset, settled or badly cracked sidewalk sections are replaced with this program. Costs for the improvement of sidewalk are assessed to the various parcels based on assessable frontage in accordance with the City of Madison Policy for the Assessment of Street Improvements. The program is also used to install curb ramps at intersections. Curb ramps are funded solely by the City.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications for the Annual Construction and Reconstruction of Concrete Sidewalk and Incidental Concrete Curb and Gutter Work Ordered (Districts 1, 7, and 9) by the Common Council be and are hereby approved:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Public Works be and is hereby authorized to advertise for and receive bids for the required public works contract.
