DRAFT Advancing the Sustainability Plan Resolution

WHEREAS the Sustainability Plan adopted in 2012 establishes a vision of Madison as a self-reliant, equitable community that relies on renewable, local resources and is able to adapt to changing environmental, social and economic conditions over time; and

WHEREAS the Sustainability Plan led to a number of measurable actions, including but not limited to:

- The energy work plan with MGE
- 100% renewable energy resolution
- Certified platinum bicycle-friendly city
- Integration of sustainability plan in comprehensive plan

WHEREAS the Sustainability Plan is meant to provide guidance for current and future decision makers, City employees, City Board Committee and Commission members, residents and other entities.

WHEREAS Boards, Commissions and Committees represent city residents in City of Madison decision making process; and

WHEREAS Boards, Commissions and Committees members may not be familiar with the City mission, vision and values or adopted plans such as the Sustainability Plan, the Comprehensive Plan, the Strategic Management Framework or the Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative;

WHEREAS knowledge of these plans and priorities are essential to ensure the City reaches its goals and efforts are aligned to achieve demonstrable success; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Sustainable Madison Subcommittee staffed by the Sustainability Program Coordinator will work with Boards, Committees, and Commissions including but not limited to the Plan Commission, the Transportation Policy Board, and the Board of Public Works to:

1. Conduct trainings for Board Commission and Committee members regarding the Sustainability Plan, Comprehensive Plan, Strategic Management Framework and the Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative,
