Harnack Memorial at Marshall Park

Please see attached information regarding a request from Karin Wolf, Madison Arts Coordinator to install the Harnack Memorial in Marshall Park. A proposed 9/16 dedication date for the piece has been requested which UW has interest in collaborating on in conjunction with the annual Mildred Fish Harnack lecture and visitor that the Human Rights program at UW Law School is bringing to campus 9/13.
Parks staff recommends the following conditions:
- Proposed footing design for the sculpture based on report/findings from soil boring to be approved by the Parks Superintendent.
- Site plan which utilizes the bench pad to N or brings items in closer proximity to it and calls out all of the elements -- including the mound to be approved by the Parks Superintendent.
- Section/Elevation and/or simulation showing all of the elements in the revised design including the smaller black granite piece & stainless steel sign panel in relation to proposed seating and information to be included on the sign(s), to be approved the Parks Superintendent.
- Phasing schedule or list of items proposed for install prior to the events in September 2018 and what might be delayed due to budgetary or other constraints.
- An endowment for the future maintenace and repair of the memorial.
