The proposed resolution authorizes the Stormwater Utility’s acceptance of $4,500 grant funding contribution from the Clean Lakes Alliance for a leaf management outreach campaign in the fall of 2018. The Stormwater Utility will provide $4,800 of existing funding within the adopted 2018 operating budget to combine for a total cost of $9,300 for the outreach campaign.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison has discovered through partnered research with the USGS and WDNR that keeping leaves out of the curb line reduces phosphorus loading to the lakes; and

WHEREAS the City is one of many municipalities required to comply with the recently adopted Rock River TMDL; and

WHEREAS, the City can dramatically reduce phosphorus by engaging and educating its residents about the benefits of proper leaf management; and

Whereas, Clean Lakes Alliance Grants are part of that mission by providing financial resources for community projects; and

Whereas, the City of Madison has been awarded a grant from Clean Lakes Alliance to conduct a project to provide educational materials to support the initiative of reducing phosphorous loading to the lakes; and

WHERAS, the City of Madison will provide matching funding for the project up to $4,800; and

WHEREAS, the grant from Clean Lakes Alliance will fund educational “mobile billboards” on City waste collection vehicles, and informational handouts to be sent with Water Utility bills; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
