Title
Request from City Engineering to Install a Stormwater Quality Screen Structure in Wingra Park
Body
The Wingra screen structure is an opportunity to provide a moderate level of treatment to a portion of the Wingra watershed that currently receives no treatment other than monthly street sweeping. The total suspended sediment and total phosphorus reductions that are possible with this project will help the City to make progress towards it’s water quality goals. The structure will be placed underground and a small native garden will be placed on top. The garden will conceal the clean out manhole lids and include a path leading park goers to two view ports where they can see the inner workings of the device (providing an opportunity for citizens to interact with the screen structure was an idea born out of the public engagement process). The proposed design is to allow for internal lights to be illuminated and for citizens to peer into the screen structure and see the screens and the collection chamber. This project will be completed by City Engineering in conjunction with the Monroe Street reconstruction project, scheduled in 2018.
