Title

Commending and honoring Lucía Nuñez, Director, Department of Civil Rights, on her retirement after ten years of public service with the City of Madison

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, after serving as Director of Centro Hispano and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development, Lucía Nuñez  was hired by the City of Madison to be the first director of the Department of Civil Rights; and

 

WHEREAS, during her ten-year tenure in the Department of Civil Rights, Lucía oversaw the merger of two separate divisions to create a more holistic approach to civil rights; and

 

WHEREAS, Lucía was responsible for the implementation of programs and policies related to civil rights issues; and


WHEREAS, Lucía always valued and exemplified leadership in courteous public discourse; and

 

WHEREAS, Lucía has tirelessly and faithfully served alongside the members of the Affirmative Action Commission, the Disability Rights Commission, and the Equal Opportunities Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, Lucía overcame life-threatening challenges to her health, returning to work to lead the Department of Civil Rights; and

 

WHEREAS, Lucía personified the values of the Department of Civil Rights: integrity, compassion, equality, and courage; and

 

WHEREAS, Lucía modeled the vision and mission of the Department of Civil Rights, working diligently to ensure that each individual is enabled to reach their full potential;


THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison thank Lucía Nuñez for her many years of dedicated service to the City of Madison and look forward to the continued service she will provide to the City of Madison at Madison College.
