2015 Annual Report on Sound Monitoring at Park Events

In 2015, 16 Public Amplification (PA) Permits were issued for concert events at Madison parks. The actual number and days of concert events is much higher than this, as one PA permit is issued to an event regardless of whether it’s a serial event or a multi-day event. The number of concert events in Madison parks requesting amplification has increased significantly in the last 3 to 4 years. Consequently, the number of noise complaints in and around Madison parks where concerts take place, has also risen. As a result, it has become necessary to monitor levels of sound at concert events in order to enforce both maximum levels of sound permitted and times during which amplified sound is acceptable.
