Awarding the Ninth Annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award
Body
WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council created the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award in memory of Jeffrey Erlanger’s great contributions to the City of Madison; and

WHEREAS, the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee has selected William (Bill) Greer, an individual who shares Jeffrey Erlanger’s dedication to, and passion for, civility and individual and human rights, as the recipient of the 2015 award; and

WHEREAS, with 40 years of experience as a clinician, administrator, instructor, and clinical supervisor, Bill has worked closely with private and public providers of mental health and substance abuse services, consumers, and policy makers, and strives to improve the quality of life for those in our community; and

WHEREAS, since 2005, Bill has been in his most recent role as President and C.E.O. of Journey Mental Health Center, an organization whose mission is to improve people's lives by pioneering and sustaining effective mental health and substance abuse services; and

WHEREAS, respcect, accountability, integrity, diversity, excellence and hope are the values that Journey Mental Health Center supports, and Bill reflects these values on a daily basis, through his work and in his everyday life; and

WHEREAS, Bill is an active member of 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc. Through this work he has been, and continues to be, a positive voice for youth of color in our community by supporting programs that encourage academic acheivement and social responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Bill has a profound presence in our community. His passion for his work and improving the lives of those in his community drives him to support the issues of human rights, civil rights and social action, poverty alleviation, workforce diversity, economic empowerment, and health and wellness;
