There is no fiscal impact associated with the acceptance of the Report. Implementing specific recommendations within the Report will require further study and expenditures in future capital and operating budgets, subject to Common Council approval at that time.

Accepting the Greening America’s Capitals: Brittingham - Triangle Green Project Report and authorizing staff to further study the concepts and actions contained in the Report during future planning and infrastructure activities within the project area.
Body
WHEREAS, Greening America’s Capitals is a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program to help state capitals develop an implementable vision of distinctive, environmentally friendly neighborhoods that incorporate innovative green infrastructure strategies; and
WHEREAS, in collaboration with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the US Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, EPA provides design assistance to help support sustainable communities that protect the environment, economy, and public health and to inspire state leaders to expand this work elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, the City of Madison applied to the Greening America’s Capitals program identifying the following five focus areas in the Brittingham Park - Triangle area: 1) East Campus Mall extension, 2) West Washington Ave. 3) intersection of West Washington Ave. and South Park St., 4) intersection of W. Washington Ave. and Regent St., and 5) Brittingham Park beach and boat rental area; and
WHEREAS, in 2013 Madison was chosen as one of four state capital cities to receive this assistance, and the EPA selected the design consulting team of Vireo and Toole Design Group, LLC to lead this effort; and
WHEREAS, an interagency City staff team was formed to engage community residents and stakeholders and to partner with the design consulting team; and
