Commending Michael Waidelich for his contributions to the City of Madison’s planning program on the occasion of his retirement from public service.
Body
WHEREAS, Michael Waidelich was hired by the City of Madison on April 28, 1969 as a Planner I and advanced to the position of Principal Planner in the Planning Division of the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, Michael has devoted his 45 year career with the City to ensuring that Madison is, and will continue to be, a great city for both current and future citizens to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, Michael was active in shaping Madison by overseeing many of citywide initiatives such the Comprehensive Plan, and numerous transportation planning efforts; and
WHEREAS, Michael was especially instrumental in the planning for future growth areas on the edge of the city, including playing a leadership role in approximately twenty neighborhood development plans, and multiple intergovernmental agreements and cooperative plans with surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Michael also played a major role in many planning initiatives in the central city, such as providing leadership to the Marquette Neighborhood Plan, and Downtown Plan; and
WHEREAS, Michael has long been recognized for his skillful, comprehensive, and diplomatic approach to highly complex issues, and for his belief in inclusive planning processes that involved residents, businesses, and other stakeholders while always keeping the public interest at the forefront of the discussion; and
WHEREAS, Michael’s many talents as an urban planner have long been respected by his staff, colleagues, City boards and commissions, Mayors and Common Councils-- and most importantly, by the public with whom he has worked.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the citizens of the City of Madison, through the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deep appreciation to Michael Waidelich for his signif...
