Title
Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign a contract with Toole Design Group, LLC. for the development of a Bicycle and Moped Parking Study for Downtown Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison is desirous of forwarding alternative modes of transportation; and
WHEREAS, the bicycle is an alternative to the use of the automobile and considered an important mode of transportation, and bicycle mode share of daily trips in Madison continues to increase; and
WHEREAS, as more people discover the benefits of bicycling, the numbers of bicycles increase in Madison, and the result is a shortage of spaces for bike and moped parking; and
WHEREAS, downtown Madison has experienced bicycle and moped parking congestion and parking shortages, resulting in bicycle and moped parking at undesirable locations and some obstruction of public sidewalks; and
WHEREAS, completing a public bicycle parking needs study for the central city area was one of the recommendations of the City's adopted Platinum Bicycling Committee report; and
WHEREAS, the City has solicited Request for Proposals (RFPs) for qualified consultants to review the bicycle and moped parking situation and make recommendations for improvement; and
WHEREAS, Toole Design Group, LLC. has been selected by a team of City staff based upon a review of submitted proposals;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to execute all necessary contract documents with Toole Design Group at a price not to exceed $76,000 for the development of the aforementioned study.
