Acknowledging and supporting efforts throughout our community to ensure the success of the Affordable Care Act in helping Madisonians gain access to healthcare and improved health.
 
Body
WHEREAS, an estimated 36,000 people are uninsured in Dane County; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Affordable Care Act was passed as federal health care reform legislation in 2010 to remove the barrier to health care for those without insurance; and,
 
WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin opened its federally facilitated health insurance marketplace on Tuesday, October 1, 2013; and,
 
WHEREAS, this online system is designed specifically for uninsured, underinsured and those now deemed ineligible for BadgerCare+ to learn about, compare and purchase affordable health insurance; and,
 
WHEREAS, a collaboration of Madison and Dane County healthcare providers, community based organizations, advocacy groups, social service providers and Public Health Madison Dane County have worked in concert to develop materials, plans and events to increase awareness and educate residents about this landmark healthcare reform and the opportunities to improve their health with access to health insurance,
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council acknowledges and supports efforts throughout our community to ensure the success of the Affordable Care Act in helping Madisonians gain access to healthcare and improved health.
