Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign a Sec. 66.0301 Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Fitchburg for the use of conduit.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison will be  installing a 144-strand fiber optic cable from the Parks Summit facility south along the Southwest Commuter Bike Trail and the Cannonball Bike Trail to County Highway PD (McKee Road) through the City of Fitchburg as part of another intergovernmental agreement with UW Board of Regents; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Madison would like to use conduit owned by the City of Fitchburg along the Cannonball Bike Trail; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Madison will use newly installed fiber and existing fiber to connect traffic signal controllers and cameras on McKee Road to the City of Madison fiber network; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Madison provides traffic signal services for the City of Fitchburg; and
 
WHEREAS, the reconstruction of Verona Road beginning in 2014 will create additional detoured traffic on McKee Road; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Madison would like to connect the McKee Road traffic signal controllers using fiber optic strands; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Madison would like to install cameras using fiber optic strands in order to monitor traffic on McKee Road during construction; and
 
WHEREAS, the City and the City of Fitchburg will not incur any additional costs for this agreement;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to sign a Sec. 66.0301 Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Fitchburg for the use of City of Fitchburg conduit as described above, with the initial term being twenty years, subject to renewal and cancellation provisions.
