Title
Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an agreement with Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC), for Aaron Bohrod Mural conservation services at the Madison Central Public Library at 201 West Mifflin Street.
Body
WHEREAS the 2013 Library Capital Budget includes funding for art conservation services; and,

WHEREAS MACC has intimate knowledge of the mural due to ongoing preservation and conservation work on the Bohrod Mural dating back to 2009; and,

WHEREAS In 2011 MACC contracted with the Madison Central Public Library Architect design team to complete a professional Bohrod Mural condition report (including high-resolution photo-documentation) and treatment proposal, developed specifications for protection of the mural during construction, consolidated the mural in a variety of places; and supplied and installed mural protection prior to construction start; and,

WHEREAS MACC has completed ongoing construction phase inspections and reports on the Bohrod Mural condition, as well as numerous consultations with the Architect and Contractor team in an effort to resolve a variety of architectural and construction concerns related to the mural; and,

WHEREAS over the past four years MACC has provided an excellent level of service in efforts to document the existing condition and preserve the Bohrod Mural and it would be economical to the City to retain MACC; and,

WHEREAS MACC is a highly regarded conservation organization with many related mural conservation projects in the Midwest region generally and Madison specifically (e.g. John Steuart Curry Murals at the Biochemistry Department, University of Wisconsin Madison); and,

WHEREAS MACC has been selected as a sole source because conservation of the Bohrod murals is a highly specific scope of work and requires a specialized set of skills that MACC is uniquely able to provide, which is allowed ...
