Recognizing April 28, 2012, as Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Day, congratulating our Mexican and Mexican American citizens on this significant day and thanking them for their ongoing contributions to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program has been in existence for thirty- five years serving the University of Wisconsin-Madison community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program has created a broad knowledge of the contributions of Latinas and Latinos in academia; and
 
WHEREAS, the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program reflects the mission of diversity at UW-Madison providing students with a broad knowledge base and the intellectual tools to understand the unity and diversity of the U.S. Latina/Latino populations and its community; and
 
WHEREAS, the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program maintains the quality of a world class education leading to faculty and students' excellence in academic achievement in both traditional and innovative fields of research and publications; and
 
WHEREAS, as the Chican@ and Latin@ population continues to grow in Madison, the product of our program - the students, faculty and staff - will continue their contributions for the development of the Chican@/Latin@ community in Madison and the city as a whole;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council do hereby proclaim April 28, 2012, as Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Recognition day.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council congratulate our Mexican and Mexican American citizens on this significant day and thank them for their ongoing contributions to the City of Madison.
 
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council encourage all citizens to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the UW-Madison Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program.
