Fiscal Note
This grant will be accounted for in a special revenue fund.  Matching funds of $2,092 are included in the Police Department's Operating Budget and will pay the fringe benefit costs associated with the overtime funded by the grant.

Authorizing the Madison Police Department to accept a traffic safety grant totaling $8,000.00 from Dane County for traffic enforcement activities along Beltline Hwy 12 & 18 corridor and access points.
Body
WHEREAS, each year the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-BOTS (WI DOT-BOTS) provides funds to local police agencies for overtime for enforcement of traffic violations; and,
 
WHEREAS, this year WI DOT-BOTS has offered a total of $150,000 for this multi-agency Beltline traffic safety initiative; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dane County will administer these grant funds; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Police Department will receive up to $8,000.00 from Dane County for this initiative; and
 
WHEREAS, this initiative includes efforts to increase seat belt use and reduce the number of impaired motorists and incidents of excessive vehicle speed on City of Madison roadways so as to contribute to decreasing the number of deaths and/or injuries due to crashes; and,
 
WHEREAS, the grant funds enable the Police Department's Traffic and Specialized Services Section to coordinate additional traffic enforcement activities that would otherwise not be provided.
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Police Department is authorized to accept the WISDOT-BOTS traffic safety grant totaling $8,000.00 from Dane County .
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds be used for additional overtime patrols for Beltline traffic  enforcement.
 
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Finance Department and the Police Department are authorized to establish and/or maintain accounts as required for the administration of the grant funds.
