There is no net impact on the City levy. The Resolution will amend the City's 2012 adopted operating budget to provide for expenditures from the budget of the Economic Development Division of $24,000 for conference expenses , supported by a transfer of $10,500 from the Room Tax Fund to the EDD operating budget and $13,500 in revenues from sponsorships and registration fees.

Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison is home to thriving business cooperatives; and,

WHEREAS, a cooperative form of business ownership is becoming increasingly advantageous in the context of the current national economy; and,

WHEREAS, a Madison Cooperative Conference can be used to foster greater collaboration among existing Madison cooperatives, share cooperative best practices from around the country and world, and inspire the entrepreneurial spirit among the next generation of cooperative owners.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council supports a Madison Cooperative Conference to be held in 2012; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the budget for said conference is anticipated to be approximately $24,000, with up to $10,500 provided by the City of Madison, and the balance of the conference funded through sponsorships and registration fees; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council recognizes that sponsorships will be provided by private businesses and organizations to the City of Madison for the purpose of funding this conference, and that the Mayor and Alderpersons are permitted to request and accept said sponsorships; and,
