Title
Commending and congratulating Madison LaFollette High School graduate Nick Jensen on being the recipient of a State AP Scholar of the Year Award.
Body
WHEREAS, the College Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams; and
WHEREAS, the College Board Advanced Placement Program each year honors one male and one female student from each state and the District of Columbia who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams; and
WHEREAS, during the 2010-2011 school year, more than 31,000 Wisconsin students took over 51,000 AP exams; and
WHEREAS, students are chosen for having scores of three or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams, and then the highest average score (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken; and
WHEREAS, only about 18 percent of the almost two million students worldwide who took more than 3.4 million AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby commend and congratulate Nick Jensen on being the recipient of a State AP Scholar of the Year Award.
